How can i make my hair grow?

I have african american hair and most of my life i have not been to get my hair the way i want it. I had my hair in braids for awhile and my hair was long when i took them out. Then only about 7 months later it started breaking off. I recently had to get it cut shorter because the ends where so uneven and damaged. I see plenty of african american women with natural long healthy looking hair and i am wondering how they maintain their hair. Does anyone know how i can take care of my hair so that it will actually grow longer and not stay the same length all the time.

How can i make my hair grow?

The way I grow my hair is this, wear it in it's own natural state. Since I have to start all over again myself after a recent bad hair cut (I asked for a slight trim) I would advise that this is one of the best ways to grow it out and keep it healthy. Someone mentioned the hair, skin and nails vitamins. They do work nicely as an internal supplement but you also have to focus on keeping your hair in good condition.

Here's what I have been doing for years since I stopped using chemicals in my hair and and you can try this too. It will take some time to grow it out and I have learned especially now that you DO NOT HAVE TO GET A TRIM FOR YOUR HAIR TO GROW PROPERLY. I don't care what ANYONE says about that. During your growing out process ALWAYS tell your hairdresser NO to a trim or cut, they can get them ends well conditioned for you if need be. My hair was nearly down to the middle of my back until I recently got a so-called trim, it was a nightmare because she cut it to just above my shoulders. If my hair could grow near to the middle of my back without a trim, so can yours. You CAN keep the hair you have on your head.

Since your hair is now cut, let it now do what it does growing wise, plus you can do this:

0. VITAMINS are highly important and the "Hair, Skin and Nails" as well as even Prenatal vitamins (it's ok to take them even if you are not pregnant) help a LOT.

1. Use "Pantene Relaxed and Natural Shampoo and Conditioner" washing your hair only 2x a week.

As African Americans, we do not need to wash our hair every single day. We need to keep moisture in our hair as much as we can, not wash it all away.

2. Mix the "Pantene Conditioner with Millenia Mudd" (you can get that at Sally's Beauty Supply) and leave it on your hair for 30 minutes.

It makes the hair feel so nice afterwards and makes a great deep conditioning treatment.

3. Let your hair air dry, applying NO HEAT (I only press n' curl my hair for special occasions using a pressing comb, hair pressing cream ("Ultra Sheen Creme Satin Press") and a flat iron. It lasts usually 1 week and I wrap it up every night).

Wearing your hair natural (chemical free, chemicals will NOT help you, not one bit when growing out your hair) and keeping it moisturized (do NOT use hair grease) is the BEST way to grow healthy African American hair. You do not need extensions or braids because it essentially breaks off your hair. The occasional "special occasion" temporary extension after a sliky press n' curl should suffice. Plus you can always get a beautiful wig or hair peice.

5. Sometimes I use Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding and Curly Butter Creme on my hair to keep the natural curly texture looking fine too and it's a fabulous product. Use a wide tooth comb on your hair. DO NOT brush your hair unless you've got a silky press n' curl going on.

6. You can also use Bronner Bros Double Strength SUPER GRO (it's lighter than a hair grease and allows your hair and scalp to breathe along with helping your hair grow) daily hairdress for your hair and scalp and it's nice, plus use Ginseng Miracle Wonder 8 Oil to keep it soft.

7. And yes drink PLENTY of water, keep your body hydrated because it does wonders for not only your skin but your hair too.

8. Wrap your hair up every single night in a Satin or Silk Scarf to keep it in place, prevent extra breakage during the night and keep it looking good, even in the morning.

9. BE SURE TO PROTECT YOUR ENDS with the Baggie Method:

!!BAGGIE METHOD INSTRUCTIONS for use after washing your hair!!

1. Towel Dry your Hair

2. Seal it by putting a nice oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) over your moisturizer

3. Put your hair in a Pony Tail and put a small plstic bag over the pony tail and lock it in place to protect your ends. Keep it on your hair as long as possible. 1 hour or more.

4. Take it off and let it air dry out and moisturize again with an oil like Extra Virgin Olive Oil. You are wanting to protect those ends and may want to "baggie" your pony tail before you got to bed at night along with wearing that silk or sating scarf over the rest of your hair.

~THE BENEFITS OF DOING THE BAGGIE METHOD~

%26gt; In order to appreciate the benefits of bagging your ends you have to examine these 2 points......

* What are the common reasons for trimming?

%26gt; A blunt look

%26gt; A neat apearance

*What are the causes of bad ends (See-thru Ends and Damaged ends?)

%26gt;Relaxing too often

%26gt; Dryness (dried out ends look raggedy in apearance)

%26gt; Heat damage ( Excessive heat from curling irons %26amp; blowdryers ..they DESTROY afro-textured hair over time!, this is why HUNDREDS of black women have stopped using them and have been airdrying )

Bagging your ends is the BEST way to AGGRESIVELY protect them. While they are in the baggie they are being hydrated around the clock, which means they don;t get the CHANCE to dry out. That means that they will remain even for a MUCH longer period of time. Earlier I mentioned the reasons why people trim. Well if you bag your ends, they will maintain a neat, even appearance. The key is to get a decent trim, before you begin doing the baggie method.

This will help you to maintain the old hair (your ends), meanwhile you have the new hair growing in (your new growth and we can always count on having new growth, isn't that great?) This is how the baggie helps you to retain length. I would recommend this method to anyone!

Well, Just dont cut ur hair and it would grow long as u said they were earlier. Apply hair oil, take head massage with good hair oil n take head bath around 1 hour after u apply oil. This way u can have silky hair. But growth of hair depends upon natural factors a lot n also upon climate. I myself have quiet long hair, i have never cut them n they reach upto my knees. So, u also don't cut till they grow the length u want them to.

Okay, listen closely. It's not hard but you have to stick with it. Get your hair trimmed to get rid of any split ends and then get it trimmed every 3-4 months for maintenance. Get rid of all your cotton pillow cases and replace them with satin ones. The cotton dries your hair out and can cause split ends as you toss and turn in your sleep. Also invest in satin hair bonnets and "wrap caps" (similar to doo rags but for girls to sleep in) to further protect your hair. Shampoo and condition at least once a week and always deep condition after a relaxer or any chemical application. Avoid using heat as much as possible. Get roller sets for curly styles or wet wraps for the straight look. Vitamins are a must. They do not have to be for hair and nails. A regular multivitamin will do just fine. I prefer a prenatal vitamin personally. Your hair and nails are made up of the excess vitamins your body doesn't use. When your body doesn't get enough, your hair and nails pay for it. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and to flush toxins out of your system. You should begin to notice an improvement in approx. 3-4 months.

Options to treat hair loss in women: When the hair loss occurs due to medication, changing the medication will solve the problems. There are medications to treat hair loss caused by infection or hormones. You can use a hair loss drug like Rogaine, which can be purchased directly from the pharmacist. You can undergo a hair transplant. But a skilled doctor should do this.

you find that the above treatments do not help, go for customized wigs, weaves and hairpieces. They are available in specialty shops and let you have the type of hair look that you choose.

I think THEONE'S answer was the best and should be printed out.

I used the "baggie" method myself and my ends are well protected. I think it's a good way to help prevent split end breakage because with growing hair you need to keep the length going..

Yes agree, drinking plenty of water and I take a hair vitamin by GNC aslo. Hair, skin and nails vitamins are great and help. There is really not much more to say because everything has been covered. But I know for a fact that Black Women can grow their hair healthy and long, it just takes time, patience and a great regime to do it.

I wish you and your hair the best!
