I have natural arfican american hair so if it is hot pressed and gets wet it poofs up i have been pressing my hair every two weeks for the past three years and i want to stop because it is now barely shoulder length please i need websites that have pictures ao all natural african american hair styles and i need ways to make my hair stronger and longer such as eat this or that or do this or do not do that etc. please help me i want my hair to be right under my boobs black people and hair stylist help me i want longer hair

Hey, I remember the days. Pressing is still much healthier than any chemical process but because of the heat, its also damaging. You may want to limit the pressing and begin nuturing and stimulating your scalp more. Using a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner is always good. Carol's Daughter has some really nice products to use. Some of my friends swear by carrot oil or olive oil for growth and moisturizing. Most of my friends stick to cornrows, braids and just wearing it fro'd out to let it breathe and grow.

There is a hair magazine out . . . I can't remember the exact name but it has Braid and Natural in the Title. Hope that helps.

Well it is no secret pressing hair is hard on the hair. The reason your hair is short is because it is breaking off due to the heat and pulling of the pressing.

Since you want it to grow take Folic acid or if you can find them prenatal vitamins. They both make the hair grow faster than normal but as hard as it is going to be try not to press as often. But if you just can't take your hair anymore and you have yo press it please use a moisturizing conditioner when you shampoo and a leave-in conditioner when drying the hair to protect it from the heat.

Taking vitamins will help it grow. Everything you eat,drink etc comes out in your hair skin and nails. You need three things moisure, protien(to strengthen) and heat protection.

I recomend redken Smooth Down Line (Shampoo, Conditioner, Butter Treat(can be used daily for hair that really needs moisture) and Heat Glide(protects and works withthe heat to provide protection. This line is formulated to provide optimal moisture w/out greases and oils. Also Redken Extreme Deep Fuel once a week for 5 weeks to rebuild. If you blow dry prior to pressing-I suggest Redken Aligh 12. It will protect your hair from the heat of the dryer and pressing comb as well as help lock out humidity. Did you ever think about getting a relaxer? Don't get me wrong, I like the natural look but it is not for everybody. I personally have a relaxer and i think it manages better. I tried the natural thing and like you said, it poofs up when wet and it took too much maintenance. So, my advice would be to give the relaxer a try and worse case scenerio you can grow it out if you don't like it. Also, try buying some of those magazines like "black hair." I am sure they will have some good tips on how to make your hair grow and keep it healthy. Or, you can just search for black hair tips on the web.

OK what u are doing to your hair is frying it and braking it what i have to tell you is if you want that long manageable hair is to get a weave or extensions there wonder full they allow you to wear your hair any way you want. i am sorry to say but it is extremely hard to grow African American hair long because the fact that it dose brake easily. Always use a wide toothed comb, even for styling

Invest is a good, natural boar bristle brush

Tie your hair up at night. This prevents your hair from "catching" on the pillow case and breaking off. This also keeps the natural hair oils in your hair and not in the pillowcase.

Use less heat on your hair, especially if it is chemically treated or damaged

Never relax and color your own hair, have a professional do it

Hey, I'm half blk/puerto rican and my hair was curly. Then I used this relaxer called Bone Straight once a year. It took away all the curls and frizzes. Also, I was my hair every other day with Pantene and use the whole line of products. To strengthen hair and for it to grow try using something call Do-Grow. Also, eat alot of vegetables and drink plenty of water.

This is just a superstitious, but I only trim my ends on Good Friday or on a full-moon. Trust me this works, 'cause my hair was just above my shoulder and right now its in the middle of my back. Just try to stay away from stress and poor eating. Also, sometimes letting too many people doing your hair may result in stunting growth.

Try a different way to wear ur hair. Have u considered individual braids or a perm. U could also get ur hair tracked.
